Course Content
Factors involved in labor include: the physiology of labor, maternal assessment, and maternal preparation; the stages of labor, the mechanism of labor, intravenous fluids and oral feeding during labor; monitoring and care during the first, second, third, and fourth stages of labor; perineal protection and birth positions; the systemic response of the mother's body to labor, pain during labor, and assessment of uterine contractions during labor; pain management during labor; the fetal response to labor, assessment of fetal health during labor, initiating and maintaining maternal-infant interaction; the physiology of the postpartum period; postpartum assessment; postpartum care; and postpartum education.
Objectives of the Course
It aims to provide the student with the ability to perform the physiology of labor, evaluation, follow-up and care of the mother and fetus so that they can manage the birth under their own responsibility.
