Course Content
This course covers the historical development of the midwifery profession, its place at national and international levels, the philosophical foundations of the profession, its ethical principles, and fundamental concepts. Students will examine the transformation of the midwifery profession from past to present, its role in cultural and social contexts, and the meaning of concepts such as health-illness and normal-risk in professional practice. Furthermore, the course aims to support students' professional identity development by addressing professionalism, leadership, modern approaches, technology use, and future perspectives in midwifery.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the historical development of the midwifery profession, its philosophical foundations, and the fundamental concepts specific to the profession. Students will recognise the universal and national dimensions of the midwifery profession, understand its ethical principles and professional roles, and evaluate its importance in a social and cultural context. Furthermore, the course aims to establish a solid foundation for students' future professional practice by supporting their critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and professional identity development skills.
