Course Content
This course, which aims to inform students about the historical origins of the social work discipline and profession in the world and in Turkey, examines the development, structure and functioning of the social welfare institution in chronological order and examines the social work profession in Western Europe, the USA and Turkey. considers its formation.
Objectives of the Course
To inform students about the basic concepts of social welfare and social work, and to enable them to have information about the historical development and philosophical foundations of service as a discipline and profession.

2 Social welfare social work relationship: social welfare, social welfare policy, social services, social welfare social work relationship
3 The birth of the social work profession in the West 1): Renaissance and reform movements that started in Italy, the poor law in England (1648), the liberalist state and the birth of the bourgeois class Workers' uprisings in Germany (1848) and the Industrial Revolution
4 The birth of the social work profession in the West 2: Socialism and the birth of the welfare state, the new poor law in England (1834), Bismark's social insurance application, the first professional organizations and applications: 1) Charity Organization Society 2) Settlement (Settlement House)
5 Emergence of the Social Work profession in the West 3: Female pioneers (Alice Salomon, Mary Richmond, Hane Adams, Eglantyne Jebb. Beginning of Social Work education in the world and pioneering developments
6 Developments in welfare systems in the world: Keynes's interventionist state doctrine, Roosevelt social security law, Beveradge Report, publication of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Transition from liberal state to welfare state and spread of social services to the whole society
