1 Recognizing different perspectives in academic lectures and texts and developing note-taking strategies.
2 Expressing different perspectives in speaking and writing and practising topic and concluding sentences.
3 Developing skills in signposting language, summarizing, and understanding references in a text.
4 Practising paraphrasing, citation, and the effective use of academic sources.
5 Examining how past events are sequenced and how processes are described in academic texts.
6 Studying the passive voice, past narrative tenses, and language used to describe processes.
7 Reviewing the topics covered in the first six weeks and completing the midterm assessment.
8 Midterm Exam
9 Identifying cause-and-effect relationships in academic texts and lectures.
10 Developing skills in explaining causes and effects and using indirect questions.
11 Practising cause-and-effect paragraph writing and language structures used to express causation.
12 Identifying main arguments, supporting evidence, and the structure of academic arguments.
13 Presenting for-and-against arguments and using linking words for addition, contrast, and concession.
14 Studying academic essay structure, including the introduction, main body, and conclusion, followed by a general course review.
