| 1 | Introduction to the course: Students are generally informed about the course and the questions students are curious about the course are answered. Information is gathered about the students' current knowledge about research methods. |
| 2 | Determining the research topic and question: Explanation and examination of general steps of research methods. The steps to be followed when determining the research question. Defining variables. Ethical concerns that need to be addressed when conducting a scientific research. |
| 3 | Literature review: Explaining and applying the steps to be followed while performing a literature review. Commonly used databases and examining how to use these databases. Citation formats and differences between them. Citing in-text and reference list. |
| 4 | Writing the introduction and literature review sections: Steps to be followed when writing the introduction and literature review sections of a research. General description of the subject of the study, reporting the sources and findings in the literature review, the missing points in the literature on the subject and how the study will contribute to these deficiencies, reporting the research questions. |
| 5 | Data collection tools. Quantitative, qualitative and mixed approaches: General information about qualitative and quantitative approaches to data collection and a brief summary of data collection tools that can be used within the scope of these approaches. How to use a mixed method using quantitative and qualitative approaches together. |
| 6 | Sampling, validity and reliability: Random and non-random sampling methods and investigation of differences between them. Defining validity and reliability. Issues to be taken into account in order to increase validity and reliability. |
