Week Topics
1 Information was given about the origin of the word translation, which is the Arabic equivalent of the word translation, dictionary and term meanings were emphasized, examples were given.
2 The historical process of translation was discussed, the different stages it went through in this process, the developments it went through in these stages were explained, and information about the works of important translators was given.
3 The work carried out in the first phase of translation, which began around 600 BC, was discussed and the languages from which translations were mostly made were explained.
4 In the second phase of translation, which took place between the VIII-X centuries A.D., information was given about the translation works carried out, mostly from which language(s) to which languages.
5 The third stage of translation, translation activities from the XIIth century onwards, was explained, and information was given about the well-known translators of those periods and their works.
6 Early translation activities in Europe were explained, examples of translations were given, and the most well-known translators were informed about their works.
7 The translation activities carried out in Europe in the last centuries were explained, information was given about the areas and languages translated, the most famous translators and their works were introduced.
8 Information was given about translation studies in the Ottoman period, the most translated fields and languages were explained, important translators and their works were introduced.
9 Information was given about the translation studies carried out in the Republican period in Turkey and the main fields, languages and well-known translators, and their works were introduced.
10 The translation activities of the Arabs were emphasized, the translation activities that took place before Islam, in which fields and from which languages the translations were mostly made were explained.
11 Information was given about the translation works carried out in the Islamic period (during the Prophet and the four caliphs), and it was emphasized in which areas and from which languages translations were made.
12 Information was given about the translation works carried out during the Umayyad period, the most famous translators of that period and their works were explained and examples were given.
13 Information was given about the translation activities carried out in the early Abbasid period, the establishment of a unit called Dar al-Hikma in which translations would be made and the translation activities carried out in this unit.
14 Translation studies in the late Abbasid period were discussed, and information was given about the areas of translation of the period and the most famous translators and their works.
