Week Topics
1 Meeting and introducing; brief information about language and culture; course objectives; The behaviors required from the student, materials, discipline, absenteeism, exam type and weeks are discussed, and if the alphabet of the language is different, letters and numbers are introduced.
2 The teacher presents the following text to the student. Benim adım Ali Yiğit. Ardahan, Posof'luyum. 19 yaşındayım ve üniversitede mühendislik okuyorum. Bu yıl benim ilk yılım. Çok heyecanlıyım. Biz büyük bir alileyiz. Üç kız kardeşim ve iki erkek kardeşim var. Kardeşlerimin hepsi benden küçük. Babam öğretmen ve annem ev hanımı. İlkokulu Posof'ta okudum sonra Posof Lisesinde okudum. Liseyi geçen yıl bitirdim. Üniversite sınavında Karatay Üniversitesini kazandım. İnşaat Mühendisliği bölümünü çok seviyorum Boş zamanlarımda, futbol ve voleybol oynarım. Ayrıca roman okumayı severim. Ayda bir kitap bitiririm. Hayat güzel!
3 Last week's text is distributed to the student as follows. Students are asked to fill in the blanks using a dictionary. The student is asked to read this text while humming and then hum it without looking. Tells students what to do next week. Last week's activity is repeated with changes. Writing activity is done in different alphabets. Students try to read each other's writing.
4 Even though they have the text in their hands, the students are asked to draw a circle. With a partner for each student and an equal distance between them, students are asked to talk about school and their future without looking at the paper as much as possible. The listening student is asked to help the speaker when he/she gets stuck. Then the listener starts talking. Partners are changed and the same thing is repeated. The conversation continues while standing until the paper is no longer needed.
5 Asks them to write the text studied the previous week in the notebook. After the writing process is completed, they are asked to make a comparison with the first text. The teacher determines what the differences are. He retells those topics. Then they are asked to write again.
6 Self-promotion continues mainly verbally. Pairings are made and one partner introduces himself and the other partner tries to understand his friend. The teacher asks questions to test understanding, such as how many brothers does your friend have? Mutual introduction is repeated 3 more times. Exercises are given for the exam. Information about the exam is provided. The sample exam is shown in class.
7 MIDTERM EXAM (Introduce Yourself) (If the class size is 25, an oral exam is held; if the class size is above 25, a written exam is held. The scope and style of the oral exam are similar to those given in the course. Written exams consist of multiple choice, true-false, fill-in-the-blank and/or short paragraphs.)
8 The course is taught in a way that the text studied until the midterm exam is structured in the form of questions and answers. What is your name, how old are you, are you studying, where are you studying, in which department are you studying? The questions of the previous year are taught at the faculty. After they are written on the board, students form a circle to ask these questions and get the answers. The teacher walks around to make sure everyone is asking questions and getting answers.
9 Questions such as how many siblings do you have, are your siblings older or younger than you, what does your father do, what does your mother do, when did you graduate from high school, do you like your department are taught. Students are asked to prepare to answer these questions. If the teacher wants, he/she can write it in the notebook. Have students stand up, ask these questions to partners in a circle, and ask the other to answer.
10 The question-answer style conversation learned in the eighth and ninth weeks is done together. This application will allow them to speak in a foreign language for about 5 minutes.
11 Are the classes difficult, what do you do in your free time, do you read books? Questions are taught like other questions.
12 This week, students are asked for their opinions on what questions they would like to ask, and what answers would be appropriate based on these questions are explained. This week, after the questions and average answers are determined, the circle conversation begins.
13 What was done in weeks 8 and 9 is repeated.
14 What was done at 11 and 12 weeks is repeated. Students are paired and asked to bring all the topics learned after the midterm into a dialogue. Information about the final exam is given.
