Course Content
Definition of typography, historical development, letter anatomy, and typeface families, how typography affects design as a visual element will be emphasised.
Objectives of the Course
It aims to teach students at a fundamental level the relationship of typography to design, one of the most important elements of Graphic design.

1 Introduction of the course, giving the briefs of the projects they will do during the semester and explaining these project briefs with international and national examples. Definition of the concept of typography Four important technological stages of typography from the invention of the "movable or changeable type" to today
2 Brief History of Typography Early printing Arts and crafts movement Early twentieth century
3 Basic Terminology of Typography Letter, Character, Base Line, Middle Line, Upper Extensions, Upper Extension, Lower Extensions, Lower Extension Project I: Typogram Explaining a word using only typography without using images. Explanation of the project brief, showing national and international examples. Requesting the selection of fonts that will reflect the meaning of the selected words.
4 Basic Terminology of Typography continued Enclosed Space, Quotation, x-height, Principal Emphasis, Horizontal Emphasis, Curved Emphasis. Project I: Typogram Analysing the selected fonts and giving feedbacks. Asking to start working on 5 sketches for each word.
5 Geometry of the Letter Old Style String Equal-en String Free String Project I: Typogram Checking the sketches and giving feedbacks and selecting the designs. Requesting typogram designs to be worked as male and female.
6 Typefaces and Fonts Font style: Italic or italic? Project I: Typogram Examining male and female typogram designs and giving feedback. Requesting typogram designs to be worked in color
7 Point System Font Size Project I: Typogram Examining the typogram designs designed in color and giving feedback. Finalizing the designs and finalizing the project.
