Geçmişte ve günümüzde sağlık çevirisi. Sağlık terminolojisi. Sağlık çevirisine teorik yaklaşımlar. Akademik, profesyonel ve popüler dilde İngilizce'den Türkçe'ye ve Türkçeden İngilizce'ye sağlık metinlerinin çevrilmesi.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of the course is to help learners acquire theoretical knowledge and practical application in the translation of medical texts with academic, professional, and popular use of language. To this end, it is aimed that students have a good command of relevant translation theories and medical terminology, and use their knowledge to translate medical texts effectively by using existing technological tools.

1 | INTRODUCTION Students are informed about the course content, materials, weekly flow, and evaluation criteria in detail. The general features of medical translation are dwelled on, and detailed information is provided about how students can use the knowledge they have learned that far as part of the present course. |
2 | MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY A general information about computer assisted translation tools is provided and then the importance of these tools in the field of medical translation is highlighted. Information about paid and free tools that can be used, and how to use the features of these tools such as glossary of terms, machine translation, and translation memory is exemplified through a free tool. |
3 | MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY The basic meanings of terms commonly used in the field of medicine in English and Turkish are examined through the roots of these words in Latin and Greek. The scientific uses of these terms and their colloquial equivalents are discussed, along with in which cases scientific or popular usages must be preferred. |
4 | THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN MEDICAL TRANSLATION Translation theories that are relevant to medical translation are discussed. Specifically, functional and equivalence approaches to translation are evaluated in detail in relation with medical texts. The employment of different strategies and techniques are discussed depending on the circumstances of the translation tasks. |
5 | THE TRANSLATION OF ACADEMIC MEDICAL TEXTS FROM ENGLISH TO TURKISH The points of consideration in the translation of medical texts with an academic register are pointed out. Then, a sample translation of an academic medical text from English to Turkish is discussed. Finally, another sample medical text in academic register is translated by the students with the use of a CAT tool. Individual feedback is provided to the students during the translation task. |
6 | THE TRANSLATION OF PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL TEXTS FROM ENGLISH TO TURKISH The points of consideration in the translation of medical texts with moderate technical language are pointed out. Then, a sample translation of a professional medical text from English to Turkish is discussed. Finally, another sample medical text in moderate technical level is translated by the students with the use of a CAT tool. Individual feedback is provided to the students during the translation task. |
