Translation and Interpreting English
KTO Karatay University Department of English Translation and Interpreting started its undergraduate education in 2018-2019 academic year in order to train effective and well-equipped translators. The department was established in 2017 with 2 professors and 1 research assistant. In 2018, two Assistant Professors were added to the staff and program approval was obtained from YÖK. By 2024, the department is providing education and training to around 180 students with one professor, four Assistant Professors and one Research Assistant.
The department, which first accepted students with central placement in the 2018-2019 academic year, started its academic life with 47 registered students and gave its first graduates in the 2021-2022 academic year.
As a result of the Department and Advisory Board meetings with internal and external stakeholders, some changes were made to the curriculum in 2019. Among these changes, the relocation of the courses “Information Technology for Translators” and “Translation of European Union Texts” was approved by the Senate Education Committee on 25.12.2019 and put into practice. In 2022, “Translation Service Sector” and “Basic Information Technologies” courses were added to the department elective courses in line with the opinions received.
The number of 2023-2024 graduates is 31 and the number of students enrolled in undergraduate programs is 181.
