KTO Karatay University Department of English Translation and Interpreting started undergraduate education in 2018-2019 academic year in order to educate students who are intended to be trained as effective and well-equipped translators. The department was established in 2017 with 2 professors and 1 research assistant. In 2018, two Assistant Professors were added to the staff and the programme approval was obtained from YÖK. The language of education was designed and accepted as completely in English.
The department, which first accepted students with central placement in the 2018-2019 academic year, started its academic life with 47 registered students and gave its first graduates in the 2021-2022 academic year. In 2022, the department, which was one of the departments with the least changes in the curriculum review process requested by the university, has shown that its current curriculum is in line with Turkey and world standards with its own comparative curriculum studies. The department has been in constant contact with the leading names of the sector and students have been directed to these fields as interns in the spring semesters. Cooperation with both the workplaces offering Translation and Interpreting services and the companies employing Translation and Interpreters has been emphasised. Recommendations were received from these workplaces and those identified as external stakeholders were invited to the Advisory Board meetings. In order to be always open to innovations and developments, the department continues its education and training activities by taking into account social and sectoral demands.
