Course Content
Examples from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, India, India, Great Britain, the United States of America are selected and the trends and schools in world literature are explained. The decline of poetry and plays and the rise of fantasy novels are analysed in terms of the changes in society.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to provide students with the ability to define, analyze and interpret the characteristics of different types of literary texts by writing critical and interpretative texts.

1 | Briefly discussing the theme of Hemingway's novel A Farewel to Arms, which they were asked to read at home beforehand, explaining military ranks and terms to provide a better understanding of the novel. |
2 | Presenting the topics, events, and characters of the 1,2,3,4 and 5th units as a summary and discussing the characters' feelings and thoughts on war and love. |
3 | Making summaries of units 6-10, discussing Frederic's injury and subsequent developments, and examining ambulance drivers' views on the war. |
4 | Summary of units 11-15, the hospital life of Frederic, his visit by Rinaldi and the priest and his transfer to the American hospital in Milan. The barber's attitude during shaving and the removal of metal fragments from his leg, discussion of Ferderic's views on doctors' different views. |
5 | 16-20. summarizing the chapters. Federic and Catherine start living together. The hospital management's condoning this, going out to dinner together after the surgery and going to horse races. Explaining Frederic's desire to marry and why it didn't happen. |

12 | The Glass Menagerie (Tennessee Williams) examines this seven-scene play scene by scene. The Wingfield Family is introduced in scenes one and two. Amanda's personality is explained by the way she criticizes Tom, protects Laura, doesn't let her do the job, and describes how she hosted her seven seers at their home in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, one afternoon. |
13 | In scenes 3-4, Amanda's fight with Tom, how Tom could not meet Amanda's expectations, and Tom's insulting her mother by calling her a ""witch"" and going to the movies after each fight are discussed. |
