2 Introduction to European Commission Translation: • Overview of the European Commission's role and its multilingual policy • Importance of accurate translation in EU institutions • Types of documents produced by the European Commission • Reading: European Commission Translation Guidelines • Exercise: Examination of a sample Directive and CAT Tools (Intro)
3 Structure of European Commission Documents: • Analyzing the structure and format of EC documents (e.g., reports, regulations, directives) • Key legal terms and concepts frequently used • Practical Exercise: Breakdown of an EC directive's structure
4 Legal and Administrative Terminology: • Common legal terminology in EC texts • Identifying equivalents in target languages • Challenges in translating legal concepts between languages • Exercise: Translation of excerpts from legal documents
