Course Content
The students will be able to recognise the principles and rules to be followed in the translation of each genre by selecting examples from the genres such as novel, story, fairy tale, poem, play, travel and similar genres and will develop the ability to translate in the light of these rules. Translations will be introduced in the class as examples and students will gain the ability to identify good and bad examples and to list their reasons.
Objectives of the Course
To be able to recognize literary text types and to develop their skills about translating these types of texts.

1 Meeting the students-Presenting information about the content of the course and the books and auxiliary resources to be taught in this course (Orientation)
2 Types of text-What is translation and what is not? The nature of the translation. The debate about whether translation is a science, an art, or a skill. Translation of sentences taken from literary texts
3 Information about the criteria of translation and the problem of appreciation. Translation of a few Nasreddin Hodja Stories into English
4 Language culture interaction and information presentation on Sapir Whorf Hypothesis. Translation of a short English story into Turkish
5 Linguistic universality and translation. Some very common translation problems. Translation of Turkish short story into English
6 Demonstration of literal and free translation (text-dependent and free) translation methods on a text
7 Translation of a Turkish text containing literary arts into English
8 Midterm Exam
9 Translation methods suitable for use in literary and informational texts. Translation of a selected literary text
