1	Getting to know each other, roles explained, course details, information on assessment types and times, introduction of books and sources to be used in the course, references, electronic data bases, purpose of translation, arguments for translation, translation as a profession, translation and interpretation studies, and other issues are explained.
2	Overview of Translation Studies: What is Translation?, Historical background: Key milestones in translation history (Short Summary), Types of Translation: interlingual, intralingual, and intersemiotic translation, Importance of translation in a globalized world, Group discussion: "The role of translation in today's society"
3	Key concepts in translation: Equivalence, fidelity, literal vs. free translation, Key historical milestones in translation. Defining translation: Text, Source Language (SL), Target Language (TL), Discussion: Examples of various translation types (literature, contracts). Translation exercise: Translate a short news article, discussing challenges
4	Overview of Early Translation Theories: How do early translation theories influence modern practices?, Group work: Translate a short text, Linguistic Theories: Structuralism and Post-structuralism in Translation, The Role of Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics in Translation, Equivalence at different linguistic levels: Lexical, syntactic, textual and pragmatic equivalence, Group analysis: Identifying linguistic difficulties in the translation of a text (e.g. wordplay, ambiguity), Workshop: Translation of a passage with a focus on maintaining linguistic accuracy
