Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week Topics
Introduction and introduction; course objectives; behaviors required from students, materials, discipline, absences, exam types and weeks are discussed.
Directions are introduced (North, South, North, East) and used in example sentences. Prepositions of location (between, across, behind, etc.) are taught, used in sentences, and practiced. The language materials provided for this purpose are presented to students first auditorily and then in written form. Students are asked to indicate the location of objects in their rooms using prepositions of location, which they will present the following week.
Last week's activity is repeated with modifications. Appropriate activities and exercises related to this topic are provided. Students are then paired and asked to share last week's assignment with each other.
In the target language, nouns such as streets, avenues, intersections, and similar nouns are taught and used in sentences with alternative expressions. Students are paired to use the prepositions and direction nouns taught in weeks 2 and 3 in appropriate activities and exercises.
Some important and common place names (pharmacy, hospital, post office, etc.) are taught. They are combined with place and direction expressions and used in appropriate sentences.
Combining: Two pictures (from the internet or any book) showing a place on a street and a picture of items in a room are found, duplicated and students are asked to use the expressions taught by matching them.
MIDTERM EXAM: The same exercise performed the previous week is used in the same exam. The teacher determines the pairings. This ensures meaningful dialogue. (If the class size is 25, an oral exam is administered; if the class size is larger, a written exam is administered. The scope and style of the oral exam are similar to those conducted in class. Written exams consist of multiple choice, true-false, fill-in-the-blank, and/or short paragraphs.)
In the weeks leading up to the midterm exam, all the expressions, sentences, and phrases taught in the target language are briefly reviewed as a reminder. Appropriate activities and exercises are provided.
The necessary expressions and patterns for asking for directions in the target language are taught. Practice is conducted using previously taught place names.
Expressions such as "Which route can I use to go faster? Which public transportation should I use? * How long is the journey?" are taught and practiced. (The names of public transportation vehicles are taught before the lesson.)
The exercises are done by combining the lessons learned in the 9th and 10th weeks.
All the necessary words, expressions and phrases for describing an address are taught and practiced.
Students are paired and asked to ask for and describe addresses using the phrases taught in a single dialogue. At the end of the lesson, students are given a sample dialogue.
FINAL EXAM: All learned knowledge and skills are presented in a dialogue between two students. If deemed necessary, the teacher will speak to the student personally.
