The teacher brings a sample text to the class. Monologue. My name is Murat. I am 20 years old and I study at Karatay University. I am in the first year of Civil Engineering. Becoming a civil engineer came to my mind during my high school years. I loved this idea. I love the department and the classes. I get along well with both my teachers and my classmates. My favorite class is Construction Elements because we learn new engineering products in this class. We learn a lot in the classes. I enjoy learning. It takes a lot of knowledge and skills to do this job. I love my classmates because they are all helpful. After I graduate, I want to work in a construction company first because experience is a sought-after qualification in this sector. After gaining experience, I will establish my own company. My goal is to do big construction projects and expand my company. In this way, I want to do things that are beneficial to society. The teacher reads this text and gets information about how much of it is understood. The student identifies unknown words and rules. These are learned separately.
Last week's text is distributed to the students as follows. My name is …………. I am 20 years old and I study at Karatay University. I am in the ………… first grade. Students are asked to fill in the blanks using a dictionary. The student is asked to read this text while humming and then humming without looking. He tells the students what will be done next week.
The students are asked to stand up from the line while holding the text they have filled in the blanks with and draw a circle. Each student is given a partner and the students are asked to talk about school and their future without looking at the paper as much as possible, with equal distance between them. The listening student is asked to help the speaker if he/she gets stuck. Then the listening student starts talking. The partners are changed and the same is repeated. The standing conversation continues until the paper is no longer needed.
Asks them to write the text they studied last week in their notebook. After they finish writing, they are asked to compare it with the first text. The teacher determines the differences. He/she explains those topics again. Then, they are asked to write again.
The fourth week, in which everyone in the class speaks to a partner at the same time, is repeated. Partners are chosen from those who know each other less. The topics covered in other weeks are repeated. Exercises are given for the exam. Information about the exam is presented. A sample exam is shown in class.
MIDTERM EXAM If the class size is 25, an oral exam is given, if the class size is over, a written exam is given. The scope and style of the oral exam are similar to those given in class. Written exams consist of multiple choice, true-false, fill in the blanks and/or short paragraphs.
The course is taught in a way that the text studied until the midterm exam is constructed in a question-answer format. What is your name, how old are you, are you studying, where do you study, what department do you study? Questions are taught. After these are written on the board, the students form a circle to ask these questions and get answers. The teacher walks around to make sure everyone asks questions and gets answers.
Questions such as do you like your department, do you like your friends, do you like your teachers, what is your favorite subject, why, do you enjoy learning are written on the board. If the teacher wants, he/she can write them in a notebook. He/she makes the students stand up, asks these questions to the partners in a circle and asks the other to answer.
The question-answer style conversation learned in the eighth and ninth weeks is done together. This practice will allow them to speak in a foreign language for about 5 minutes.
Questions such as whether the education at school is useful, what will you do after graduation, is experience important in your profession, will you work in the private sector or in the government, are taught like other questions.
This week, students are asked for their opinions on which questions they want to ask and it is explained which answers would be appropriate according to these questions. After determining the questions and average answers this week, the circle conversation begins.
What was done in weeks 8 and 9 is repeated.
The work done in weeks 11 and 12 is repeated. Students are paired and asked to bring all the topics learned after the midterm into a dialogue. Information is given about the final exam.
FINAL EXAM All the learned knowledge and skills are done in the form of a dialogue between two students.
