Course Content
This course offers an advanced level of preparation, aiming to help students develop and enhance the commercial and communication skills required in the fields of International Trade and Business that they will need when they enter the world of work.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to further develop students' advanced English language skills in business and professional settings. Students learn to strengthen their written and oral communication skills by using professional terminology more effectively and to communicate professionally in the international business world.

| 1 | Introduction and Ice Breaker. Students introduce themselves, their department experience, and career goals. The course plan, units, and assessment system are explained. |
| 2 | 1.1 Transferable Skills. Students learn vocabulary related to personal qualities and transferable skills used in different jobs. They also practise writing a short job description. |
| 3 | 1.2 Careers Advice. Students practise phrases for giving advice and making suggestions. They give advice on how to improve someone's online profile. |
| 4 | 1.3 Communication Skills: Building Rapport. Students develop skills for building rapport in first meetings and asking appropriate questions. They practise building rapport in short conversations. |
| 5 | 2.1 Japan's Economy. Students study vocabulary related to sectors, industries, and economic activity through the example of Japan's economy. They research different sectors and give short presentations. |
| 6 | 2.2 The Energy Industry. Past events are discussed in the context of the energy and oil industries. Students use the Past Simple and Past Continuous to talk about past events. |
| 7 | 2.3 Communication Skills: Dealing with Interruptions. Students practise expressions for taking turns, interrupting, and managing interruptions in meetings. They take part in a discussion during an induction meeting. |
| 8 | Midterm Exam Week. No new topic is covered this week. Students are assessed on the vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills studied in the previous weeks. |
| 9 | 3.1 Project Management. Students learn vocabulary related to project management, project processes, and task sharing. They practise a project debriefing and discuss lessons learnt. |
| 10 | 3.2 Large-scale Projects. Large-scale projects and project bids are compared. Students use comparatives and superlatives to choose the winning bid. |
| 11 | 3.3 Communication Skills: Giving Instructions. Students practise giving and responding to instructions and standing their ground when necessary. They role-play workplace problems such as a schedule change. |
| 12 | 4.1 One Size Fits All. Students focus on global markets, company strategies, and product adaptation. They prepare a project to adapt a product to a new market. |
| 13 | 4.2 Online Markets. Online markets, entrepreneurship, and product promotion are covered. Students use the Present Simple Passive and Past Simple Passive to write a short product description. |
