Course Content
The course content includes basic English terms specific to physiotherapy and rehabilitation, anatomy and musculoskeletal system terminology, patient assessment and exercise instructions, clinical case examples, patient communication expressions, and scientific text reading activities.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable students to recognize basic professional English terminology used in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, to understand clinical and academic English texts at a basic level, and to develop their professional communication skills.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week Topics
1 Introduction and presentation of the topic.
2 1A) Listening & Speaking: How do you study? Understanding key information in a presentation and taking notes. Grammar: Present tense. (Pages: 9-10-11) HOMEWORK: You will be given a 2-minute presentation about introducing yourself.
3 Listening to presentations. 1B) Reading: Identifying text types and topics. Reading the text "Learning new skills," answering questions, and taking notes. (Pages 12-13) HOMEWORK: Task 4 on page 14 will be given as homework.
4 Homework Check. 2A) Listening & Speaking: Understanding the evaluation and design of academic websites. Video: A student presentation will be watched and notes will be taken. What should the presentation language be like? Sequential words (Firstly, secondly…) (Pages 23-24-25) HOMEWORK: A 3-minute PowerPoint presentation will be assigned. (See: TASK 5)
5 Presentations will be given and evaluated. ASSIGNMENT: 2D) Vocabulary section will be assigned as homework.
6 Homework Check. 2C) Writing: How to write a description? Academic language: Noun phrases containing adjectives. Listing adjectives. A descriptive paragraph will be written together with the class. (Pages 30-31) HOMEWORK: Students will choose a company or organization and describe it. (See: TASK 3) (Minimum 100 words)
7 Feedback will be given on assignments. 2C) Writing: Analyzing a descriptive paragraph. Academic language: In addition, also, so, or, and, but. A descriptive paragraph will be written together with the class using these conjunctions. (Again, about a company or organization.) Information about the midterm will be given. (Pages 32-33)
8 Mid-term Week
9 3A) Listening & Speaking: Talking about the Olympic Games. VIDEO: A lesson video on this topic will be watched and notes will be taken. Grammar: Comparative and Superlative verbs. (Pages 37-38-39) HOMEWORK: A 3-minute presentation will be given. They will introduce a city from Türkiye. (See: Task 5)
10 Presentations will be given and evaluated. ASSIGNMENT: 3D) Vocabulary section will be assigned as homework.
11 Homework checking. 4A) Listening & Speaking: Studying statistical tables. VIDEO: Watching a student presentation on global cocoa production. Academic language: Stating numbers as exact or approximate. (Pages 51-52-53)
12 5C) Writing: Making definitions and descriptions. Academic language: a new word / idea + be + noun phrase. A descriptive paragraph will be written together with the class. (Pages 72-73) HOMEWORK: Students will describe their cell phones or computers in a paragraph. (See: Page 75 - TASK 3) (Minimum 100 words) They will talk about their functions, etc. They can also add descriptive sentences.
13 Homework will be reviewed and feedback will be given. 5A) Listening & Speaking. A lecture on biomimetics will be watched and notes will be taken. Academic language: Definitions, explanations, examples. Reading a text on anthropomorphism and taking notes. (Pages 65-66-67) WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Students should describe their rooms (in the dorm or at home), creating descriptive or illustrative sentences. (Minimum 100 words)
14 Homework will be reviewed. A general review will be conducted. Preferably, the vocabulary section (5D) can be covered. The final exam will be discussed.
