Course Content
The development of the Sociology of Health includes the following topics: the concept of health and illness; the organization of health services; the social position of women and the sociology of the health body; traditional, complementary, and alternative medicine; the commodification of midwifery and childbirth; health and religion; the medicalization of society and daily life; parenthood, fetal gender preference and its causes; the sociological examination of reproductive health services; the reflection of social inequalities in the field of health; economic, regional, gender-based, and ethnic inequalities; the social roles of midwives: an examination of the midwifery profession from the perspective of the sociology of the medical profession.
Objectives of the Course
This course aims to provide students with knowledge about the sociology of health, to evaluate the social determinants of health, health systems and the problems experienced in the field of midwifery from a sociological perspective.
