Course Content
During the first week of the semester, general information regarding building performance, the geographical and physical characteristics and orientation of the building site, and the effects of natural factors such as sun and wind on building form will be discussed. Regarding construction systems, the concepts of structural stability and strength will be defined first. Based on these fundamental concepts, reinforced concrete, steel, and timber construction systems and their applications in foundations, interior and exterior walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs will be examined.
Objectives of the Course
The main objective of this course is to introduce the students with the fundamental concepts and the general terminology of building construction. Due to the ongoing developments in the construction sector, this information has to be updated continuously. Consequently, another objective of the course is to introduce the students with the means of following the most recent developments and help them gain this habit.
