WEEK 1 GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT COMPOSITION Written and Oral Composition. How should a plan be made in written expression? Types of paragraphs according to their topics. Types of narration in a paragraph. Ways of developing ideas. A) Official Writings: Definitions, main features, and examples of official writing types such as petitions, reports, minutes, and résumés. B) Intellectual Writings: Definitions, main features, and examples of intellectual writing types such as articles, columns, papers, critiques, and essays. Turkish Poetry Traditions: Classical poetry, Folk poetry, Modern poetry tradition and their features. Types of poetry in terms of content. Definition and importance of theatre, main theatre terms. Our traditional stage plays (Meddah, Ortaoyunu, Karagöz-Hacivat). Types of theatre in terms of content (Tragedy, comedy, drama). Definition and main features of the short story, types of stories in terms of structure. Definition and main features of the novel. Types of novels according to their topics. Distinguishing features between short stories and novels. Definition and general features of the epic genre. Natural epics and their stages of formation, artificial epics. Turkish natural epics before and after the acceptance of Islam. Types and motifs in Turkish epics. Definition of the fairy tale genre, folk tales and literary tales. Main features of fairy tales. Definition and main features of travel writing. Memoir as a literary genre and its main features. Oral composition and the concept of communication. Elements of communication. Types and barriers of communication. Using Turkish correctly and effectively. Definitions and main features of oral composition types such as speeches, conferences, interviews, panels, seminars, and debates. Information sources according to their form and qualities. Researching information sources and using libraries. Main scientific terms such as theory, law, principle, system, and method. Definition of scientific writing and the plan of scientific research. Important points regarding style, citation, and referencing in scientific research. Major literary periods and movements in our literature such as Tanzimat, Servet-i Fünûn, Fecr-i Atî, and National Literature. The development of main literary genres such as poetry, theatre, novel, and short story after the Republic.
