Course Content
Fundamental concepts of computer-aided manufacturing, CAM software structure and CAD/CAM integration, importing three-dimensional CAD models into the CAM environment, stock and workpiece zero point definition, cutting tool and tool holder selection, determination of cutting parameters, 2.5-axis and 3-axis machining strategies, toolpath generation, roughing and finishing operations, drilling and pocket machining operations, toolpath simulation, collision and gouge detection, post-processor usage, generation of G-codes and M-codes, CNC program verification, occupational health and safety, and analysis of CAM-based manufacturing problems.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to teach students the fundamental principles of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software and CAD/CAM integration processes, and to develop their ability to generate machining strategies and toolpaths for CNC machine tools based on three-dimensional CAD models. The course also aims to enable students to define cutting tools and cutting parameters, evaluate machining simulations, identify collisions and machining errors, generate CNC programs using appropriate post-processors, and plan safe, high-quality, and efficient manufacturing processes
