Course Content
Definition and purpose of heat treatment; the Fe-C diagram and critical temperatures; structural transformations in steels; TTT and CCT diagrams; heat treatment furnaces and quenching media; annealing, normalizing, hardening and tempering; hardenability; carburizing, carbonitriding, nitriding, flame and induction hardening; hardness and microstructure inspection; heat treatment defects and their prevention.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to help students understand the purpose of heat treatment and the structural transformations in metals, and to train technicians who can interpret transformation diagrams to select the appropriate heat treatment method, furnace, quenching medium and parameters, and who can perform hardness and microstructure inspections after heat treatment and evaluate defects.
