Methods and Techniques Instruction is delivered through lectures, visual presentations, examination of material samples, and laboratory demonstrations followed by hands-on practice—including tensile, hardness, and notched-bar impact tests. Activities also include working with standard tables, case studies on material selection, in-class discussions, and continuous assessment. Students have the opportunity to measure and interpret material properties through direct, hands-on use of testing equipment.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

Course Content
Classification of engineering materials; atomic structure and interatomic bonds; crystal structures and defects; solidification, alloys, and diffusion; mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of materials; equilibrium diagrams and the iron-carbon equilibrium diagram; tensile, hardness, and notched-bar impact tests; standard designation of steels and cast irons; non-ferrous metals; polymers, ceramics, and composites; material selection, environmental impact, and recycling.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge regarding the structure, properties, and classification of engineering materials; and to train technical personnel capable of interpreting the results of material tests, identifying steels and cast irons according to standards, and selecting appropriate materials for specific applications while taking environmental criteria into account.
