This year is my first year. I am very excited. We are a big family. I have three sisters and two brothers. All my siblings are younger than me. My father is a teacher and my mother is a housewife. I went to primary school in Posof and then to Posof High School. I finished high school last year. I won Karatay University in the university exam. I love the Civil Engineering department. In my free time, I play soccer and volleyball. I also like to read novels. I finish one book a month. Life is beautiful! The teacher reads this passage and asks the students how much of it was understood. The student identifies the unknown words and rules. These are learned separately.
Last week's text is distributed to the student as follows. My name is ................ / I am from ............................ I am ...... years old and I am studying ............... at university. This year is my ......... year. I'm very excited. We are a ............ family. I have ...... sisters and ...... brothers. My siblings are all .......... My father ......... and my mother ............. I attended primary school in ......... and then ............ High School. I finished high school last year. I won Karatay University in the university exam. I love the ............... department. In my free time, I play ......... and ............. I also like to read ............. I finish ......... once a month. Life is good! Students are asked to fill in the blanks using a dictionary. The student is asked to read this text by humming and then hum it without looking at it. The teacher tells the students what to do next week. Last week's activity is repeated with changes. Writing activity is done in different alphabets. Students try to read each other's writing.
The students are asked to stand in a circle with the text in their hands and fill in the blanks according to their own preferences. With one partner per student and an equal distance between them, the students are asked to talk about school and their future without looking at the paper as much as possible. The listening student is asked to help the speaker if he/she gets stuck. Then the listener starts talking. The partners are switched and the same is repeated. The standing conversation continues until the paper is no longer needed.
They are asked to write the text they studied the previous week in the notebook. After writing, they are asked to make a comparison with the first text. The teacher determines what the differences are. He/she explains those topics again. Then they are asked to write again.
Self-introduction continues verbally. Pairs are made and one partner introduces himself/herself and the other partner tries to understand his/her friend. The teacher asks questions that measure comprehension, such as how many brothers and sisters your friend has. The mutual introduction is repeated 3 more times. Exercises for the exam are given. Information about the exam is presented. The sample exam is shown in the classroom.
MIDTERM EXAM (Introduce Yourself) (If the class size is 25, an oral exam is held, if more than 25, a written exam is held. The scope and style of the oral exam is similar and identical to the ones given in class. Written exams consist of multiple choice, true-false, fill-in-the-blank and/or short paragraphs).
The text studied until the midterm exam is taught in a question and answer style. Questions such as what is your name, how old are you, are you studying, where are you studying, what department are you studying in, what year are you in the faculty are taught. After they are written on the blackboard, the students form a circle to ask these questions and receive the answers. The teacher walks around to make sure that everyone is asking questions and getting answers.
Questions such as how many siblings do you have, are your siblings older or younger, what does your father do, what does your mother do, when did you finish high school, do you like your department are taught. Students are asked to prepare to answer these questions. The teacher can write them down in a notebook if he/she wants. He/she makes the students stand up and asks them to ask these questions to the partners in a circle and ask the other to answer them.
In the eighth and ninth week, the question-answer style conversation learned is practiced together. This practice will enable them to speak for close to 5 minutes in a foreign language.
Are the lessons difficult, what do you do in your free time, do you read books, questions are taught like any other questions.
This week, students are asked for their opinions on which questions they would like to ask and are told which answers would be appropriate according to these questions. This week, after the questions and average answers are determined, the conversation in a circle is started.
We repeat what was done in weeks 8 and 9.
