Course Content
This course examines the emergence of psychology as a scientific discipline and its historical development from a multidimensional perspective. The course begins by discussing why the history of psychology should be studied, followed by a detailed examination of the philosophical and physiological foundations of psychology. Subsequently, the main theoretical approaches that played a decisive role in the formation of modern psychology—structuralism, functionalism, applied psychology, behaviorism, Gestalt psychology, and psychoanalysis—are addressed. Furthermore, contemporary thought and approaches in psychology are discussed, highlighting current trends in the field. During the course, students have the opportunity to critically evaluate the historical and theoretical development of psychology through group presentations.
Objectives of the Course
This course will cover the historical development of psychology from ancient times to the present day. The aim is for students to see how different psychological traditions have influenced each other and to integrate their current knowledge within a historical perspective.
