Definition of health psychology, major models and history • Health Promotion and Primary Care Protection • Health Behaviors: Exercise, Accident Prevention, Healthy Nutrition, Weight Control and Obesity • Harmful Health Behavior: Alcoholism and Smoking • Stress: Definition, Theoretical Approaches and Measurement • Start-up and Social Support • Recognizing Disease Symptoms and Benefiting from Health Care • Patient Physician Relations • Pain: Definition, Measurement and Management • Chronic Disease Management • Heart Disease, Hypertension, Stroke, and Type II Diabetes • Psychoneuroimmunology and Immunology-Related Diseases: AIDS, Cancer, Arthritis and Type I Diabetes
Objectives of the Course
The definition of health psychology, the examination of psychological and communication skills in patient interactions with health personnel constitutes the first part of the course. Following this, the interaction between physiologically based health problems and psychological processes and the theoretical studies revealed in this subject will be discussed.
