Course Content
Spinal cord injuries, spasticity, ataxia, multiple sclerosis.
Objectives of the Course
The clinical characteristics of neurological diseases, the mechanisms of occurrence of symptoms in the human body, the measurement and evaluation methods used in neurological rehabilitation and the use of neurophysiologically based techniques used in the rehabilitation of these diseases according to their case characteristics, to improve clinical decision making and problem solving skills in the field of neurological rehabilitation.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week Topics
1 Basic organization of the nervous system, central and peripheral nervous system, nerves arising from the brachial, lumbar and sacral plexus, an overview of descending and ascending pathways.
2 Medulla spinalis injuries and their causes, functional status according to the level of injury, partial medulla spinalis injuries and the resulting clinical picture.
3 Pulmonary, cardiac, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, neurologic and scletal complications and decubitus ulcers after medulla spinalis injuries.
4 Rehabilitation after medulla spinalis injuries, positioning, in-bed rotation and sitting position, parallel bar exercises, sitting and standing in a wheelchair, walking and stair climbing activities.
5 Spasticity concept, spinal and supraspinal mechanisms in the development of spasticity, spasticity evaluation methods, general and local applications in the treatment of spasticity.
6 Etiology and effects of peripheral nerve injuries, classification of nerve injuries, brachial plexus injuries.
7 Lumbal and sacral plexus injuries, evaluation of peripheral nerve injuries, treatment goals, methods used in treatment and sensory training.
8 Midterm
9 Etiology of facial paralysis, clinical features, characteristics of peripheral and central facial paralysis, practical training of methods used in evaluation and treatment.
10 Causes of acute anterior poliomyelitis, modes of infection, clinical course, types of paralytic polio, symptoms of poliomyelitis, post polio, methods used in the evaluation and treatment of poliomyelitis.
11 Guillain Barre syndrome, clinical features, findings, diagnosis, prognosis, early and active period treatment and problems in rehabilitation process. Etiology of entrapment neuropathies, common entrapment neuropathies and their treatment.
12 Clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, risk factors, clinical findings, consequences of the disease, evaluation and treatment of Parkinson's disease.
13 Definition of ataxia, types of ataxia, practical training of methods used in the evaluation and treatment of ataxia.
