Course Content
Introduction, vibration in simple systems, wave propagation in soil, soil behavior under cyclic loading, measurement of dynamic soil properties, foundations under dynamic loads. Vibration prevention: formulations and solutions, determination of the effects of vibration, vibration measurement and estimation techniques, vibration reduction. Geotechnical earthquake engineering: Determination of earthquake characteristics, estimation of ground motion caused by the earthquake, the area of the seismic response analysis, liquefaction problem, responses of geotechnical structures and underground structures.
Objectives of the Course
It is aimed to gain basic knowledge about soil dynamics and earthquake in terms of civil engineering, to examine the behaviors of the soils under dynamic effects, and to provide the students with enough knowledge and skills in the consideration of these effects in the design of the ground structures.
