Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering is one of the most important branches of engineering and its historical roots date back to 3000 BC. Structures such as buildings and bridges, facilities, distribution networks, transmission and transportation lines, roads, water structures and infrastructure facilities, which are the products of modern civil engineering, are used by people directly or indirectly at all times. Civil engineers can work in the public and private sectors: municipalities, contracting sector, organizations operating in consultancy fields, educational institutions, R&D units and technoparks, industries producing construction materials, trade sector, service sector, organizations operating in consultancy fields, Turkish Railways. They can be employed at all levels in the units affiliated to the General Directorate of Highways, State Hydraulic Works and the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement. The types of work performed are very diverse; It includes business lines such as planning, design, contracting services, manufacturing, construction, operation and maintenance, sales and marketing and renovation. Civil engineering classically includes the subdisciplines listed below: Structural engineering: It is concerned with the design and manufacturing of structures such as all kinds of buildings and bridges for shelter and transportation purposes. Geotechnical engineering: The soil properties on which buildings and other structures will be placed for use in the design of building foundations, the main principles of soil mechanics. principles, design of foundation elements with the use of geotechnical data, excavation, retaining walls, earth body dam structures are the main subjects of geotechnical engineering. Infrastructure management and building manufacturing technologies applications: In general, within the scope of field engineering, project application management, building materials selection and applications and building manufacturing technologies. Transportation engineering: Covers the planning, design, manufacturing, operation and renewal of airports, rail systems, highways. Engineering mechanics: It is about studying applied mathematics, mechanics and other related subjects together. Thus, the properties of materials, mechanical properties of fluids and solids, hydraulic issues and structures can be better understood; design and applications are possible, Water resources engineering: Hydrology; Planning of structures and pipe networks and lines for taking, transmitting and distributing water from nature in order to meet the water needs of human settlements, industries and agricultural activities; water drainage in residential areas; It covers flood control and flood damage analysis. Materials engineering: Covers the subjects of material science, material experiments and mechanical properties of materials related to the materials to be used in buildings and other structures. Infrastructure engineering: It includes the appropriate removal and disposal of wastewater collected from residential areas.
Vision: To be a respected institution at national and regional level with its quality in civil engineering education and training.
Mission: The mission of the Department of Civil Engineering is; To train responsible civil engineers who have acquired design and application skills, who practice their profession according to scientific and ethical rules, who closely follow and use the developments in technology, who think analytically, who are sensitive to the environment and society's problems.
