Course Content
Pain pathophysiology, pain assessment and physiotherapy approaches used in pain relief, preventive services in rehabilitation, disease process management and theories of coping with pain, recognition of different types of pain and necessary treatment approaches
Objectives of the Course
By examining the physiological mechanisms of pain management on the basis of all the methods used in the field of pain physiology and physiotherapy (electrotherapy, manual techniques, exercise applications, taping, etc.), the physiological mechanisms and the application of the chosen physiotherapy technique to the probing, to explain the causes of rehabilitation needs and treatment characteristics and to explain the treatment options for probing, to increase the knowledge and skills needed by the physiotherapist in the field of pain management.

1 | Definition and classification of pain, nociceptive pain, neuropathic pain, deafferentation pain, psychosomatic pain, reactive pain, acute and chronic pain. |
2 | Stages of nociception, nociceptors, primary afferent neurons, dorsal horn neuronal system, nociceptive ascending pathways, descending control system, parts of the cerebral cortex associated with pain. |
3 | Peripheral and central sensitization, reflected pain, pain mediators, phantom pain, most sensitive or painless areas of the body. |
4 | Subjective and objective methods used in pain assessment, pain scales, questionnaires and scales used in various pain-related problems. |
5 | Mechanisms of action of heat agents, direct current, low-medium-high frequency currents and laser on pain. |
6 | Mechanisms of action of massage, mobilization, manipulation, soft tissue treatments, osteopathy, chiropractic applications and exercises on pain. |
7 | Midterm |
8 | Mechanisms of action of homeopathy, biofeedback, meditation, relaxation, imagination, breathing exercises, yoga, tai chi, qigong and reiki on pain. |
9 | Non-invasive pharmacological treatments and pharmacological interventional treatments used in the treatment of pain. |
10 | The effect of acupuncture and dry needling on pain, surgical methods used in pain treatment and psychological approaches. |
11 | Complex regional pain syndrome, its causes, classification, clinical course, clinical findings, diagnostic criteria, pathophysiology and methods used in its treatment. |
12 | Myofascial pain syndrome, pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria, fibromyalgia syndrome, etiology, classification and diagnostic criteria. |
