Course Content
Diplomatic science. The emergence and development phases of Ottoman diplomacy. The emergence and development of different forms of writing. Examples of writing types. Seals, tughras. Categorization of Ottoman documents, Elements. Names, adjectives, titles, epithets. Pattern expressions, idioms and terms that will facilitate the reading of documents. The correspondence language used in the Ottoman period will be examined on the basis of examples of documents such as edict, berat, buyruldu, istida, tahrir, telhis and similar documents that constitute the documents of that time and examples of documents selected from archives
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable the students to come to advanced level in Ottoman Turkish and read archival documents with ease.
