Course Content
Pre-Roman Italy and the Etruscans. The foundation of the Roman State. The social and economic structure during the Kingdom and Republic periods. The development of Roman law and relations with the Western and Eastern Mediterranean regions. Christianity and Rome. Political structure. The fall and the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire. Byzantine-Turkish relations and political and religious interactions with the Balkan nations. Internal conflicts in Byzantium.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of the course is to learn the level of cultural and civilization of the Roman Empire which is one of the Ancient Western Civilizations and to have knowledge about the political and social life of the Roman Civilization and to summarize the political history of the Byzantine Empire and the Roman Empire and to enable them to question the place and the effects of the Byzantine Empire on world history.
