Course Content
Diplomatic science. Birth and developmental stages of Ottoman Diplomatics. The emergence and development of different writing styles. Examples of writing types. Seals, masters. Categorization of Ottoman documents, Elements. Names, adjectives, titles, nicknames. Expressions, phrases, and terms that will make it easier to read documents. The correspondence language used in the Ottoman period will be examined on the basis of the documents of the then edict, berat, byruldu, istida, tahrir, telhis and similar documents and examples of documents selected from the archives.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable the students to come to advanced level in Ottoman Turkish and read archival documents with ease.
