Course Content
The principles of chip removal, vertical and inclined cutting, chip types and affecting factors, characteristics of cutting tools and materials to be processed, solid, welded and plaque, chip breaking and non-breaking type of tools. Classification of machines used in machining and classification of cutting tools used. Turning, planing and drilling, drilling and boring, broaching, properties of the tools used in grinding machines, classification.

3 The forces affecting cutting tool in cutting, measurement and calculation of cutting forces.
4 Effects of turning the tool geometry
5 Copy benches, copy turning, profile machining
6 Tool wear and measurement, tool wear mechanisms. Tool life and tool life models
7 Drilling
8 Drill benches and drilling, reaming and countersinking, drill types
9 Tool geometry due to machining properties, tool selection and tool holder selection.
10 Problem solving for turning and drilling
11 Material properties-machinability relationship
