Course Content
This course covers the concept of portfolio management in insurance, the risk-return relationship, diversification, concentration risk, modern portfolio theory, line-of-business and risk portfolios in insurance companies, premium production, loss ratio, technical profitability, line-of-business growth and volatility indicators, underwriting and portfolio quality, the role of reinsurance in portfolio management, agency and broker portfolios, customer segmentation, product mix, renewal ratio, cross-selling, commission income, portfolio efficiency, basic portfolio analysis with Excel, line-of-business portfolio optimisation, scenario analysis and sample insurance portfolio evaluations.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable students to apply the basic concepts of portfolio management theory to insurance and to analyse insurance companies'portfolios in terms of lines of business, risks, customers and regions, as well as agencies'and brokers'portfolios in terms of customers, products, renewals, sales and commission income.
