Course Content
This course covers the concepts of claims and indemnity, the duty of disclosure, claims notification, post-loss obligations of the insured, opening a claim file, document management, preliminary review, examination, evaluation and finalization of claim files, the definition, duties, authorities and professional responsibilities of insurance loss adjusters, assignment of loss adjusters to claim files, loss investigation processes, loss adjustment reports, disputes and objection periods, calculation of indemnity, deductibles, underinsurance, salvage, subrogation, recourse, payment of indemnity, claim rejection, partial payment, ex-gratia practices, claims processes in motor and accident, fire and marine cargo insurance, insurance disputes, the Insurance Arbitration Commission, alternative dispute resolution methods, reporting in claims departments, performance indicators and current sectoral practices.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the concepts of claims and indemnity, claims notification, post-loss obligations of the insured, and the processes of opening, examining, evaluating and finalizing claim files; to learn the duties, authorities and professional responsibilities of insurance loss adjusters; to evaluate concepts such as deductibles, underinsurance, salvage, subrogation and recourse in indemnity calculations; to examine claims processes in motor and accident, fire and marine cargo insurance through case studies; and to gain basic professional competence in insurance disputes, arbitration procedures, claims department reporting and current sectoral practices.
