Course Content
This course covers the historical development of risk and insurance concepts and their place in Islamic thought (riba, gharar, maysir). It examines the core principles, legal elements, and dispute resolution mechanisms of traditional and Islamic insurance (takaful) contracts. Within the scope of the curriculum, Mudarabah, Wakalah, Hybrid, and Waqf-based takaful models are analyzed comparatively through case studies. Additionally, the course explores the management and supervision of takaful undertakings under AAOIFI standards, alongside the current status and future expectations of the global market and participation insurance in Türkiye.
Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable students to evaluate the concepts of risk and uncertainty within the context of Islamic thought; to understand the basic elements of conventional insurance contracts, the obligations of the parties, and the main areas of fiqh-based discussion; to analyze insurance practices in relation to riba, gharar, and maysir; and to evaluate takaful contracts and models in comparison with conventional insurance within the framework of AAOIFI standards and participation insurance practices in Türkiye.
